This from a story on Channel 13 ABC in Toledo

If you’re pregnant, no amount of alcohol is considered safe for your unborn baby. That recommendation is coming from the American Academy of Pediatrics. This is the clearest message yet from the advocacy and policy group. It joins the Centers for Disease Control and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

For years, some doctors would tell some women that as long as they were having a healthy pregnancy, a glass of wine every now and then was OK. But new studies show that the risk of having a baby with growth retardation goes up, even when a pregnant woman has just one drink a day.

Fetal alcohol syndrome is an entire group of health issues that includes everything from facial deformities to developmental delays.
Studies are also showing women who drink during their first trimester are 12 times more likely to have a child with these issues.
